Cash game is best known as money game and it’s exactly what you are actually thinking. In a ring game you stand on a table per game, often just started before, and you play with your real money. You will win what you are able to obtain and you will lose what you can have no more on your playing table. This games often start at a certain blind level and remain at this level. You will need about 100 times more money that big blind to play with more tranquillity (a 0.25/0.50$ level game will admit only $50 max amount) and to save yourself in case of bad luck. For this reason cash games are very dangerous: you could lose much money and, just for this cause, this type of games are considered game of chance much more than a poker tournament. To participate to tournaments you must pay a registration fee that you spend (with the exception of re-buy games) every time a game is going to start. After the payment every player will receive the same number of chips and will start to play in the same time and level. Blinds will succeed in turns, in order to assure the end of the game. If you lose every chip you will be eliminated. Instead, to win a tournament you must gain all chips; you will also gain less money than the winner, arriving among the best players of the tournament, or better, “In the money”. There are various type of tournaments: single table, sit&go and multi table, for example. In a tournament you will risk only the registration buy-in, moreover the re-buy and the like. Tournament jackpot will be split (in commission) on the basis of registered number of players and will be split only to “In the money” classified players. Generally, participate to poker tournaments is better than play to ring games, moreover for beginner players that don’t want to risk too much money. However, you need to remember that if you play good first part of a tournament and after you don’t have the same luck, being eliminated by the tournament sooner than the “money zone”, you will not win money. In a cash game if you are good playing and understand that lucky is going to leave you, it’s always advised to leave the game wherever you want in order to gain something. Generally, it’s better to start with lower buy-in tournament. After having improved your technique and strategy, moreover for your money management, you could concentrate on lower level cash games (step by step, passing to more difficult levels further on).
